Oxford Spires sponsors a child in India through Plan UK, part of Plan International, an organisation that works for children and their communities in some of the world’s poorest countries.
We have sponsored Vivek since 2006 and each month at our meal meeting we have a raffle to cover the sponsorship costs. Vivek lives with his family in a small village in Uttarkashi, the northern most district in Uttaranchal State in Northern India, bordering China and Tibet. He is 6 years old and has a younger sister. His family lives about 15 minutes from the health centre and 30 minutes from the nearest hospital. Donations fund community-based projects, so all children in the community benefit from Plan’s work. In Vivek’s community Plan has helped with activities to raise awareness on health, immunisation for children and pregnant women, and the provision of computers and other equipment to support health organisations. As a club we send letters and pictures to Vivek and he has also written to us.
