Playground Equipment in Uganda

Oxford Spires supported the Rotary Club of Sinodun in its application for a District Simplified Grant to pay for play equipment for schools in Uganda. The application was approved in November 2011 and the equipment will be purchased in early 2012.

Oxford Spires gave the donation to Sinodun after Phil Shipman's visit to our club, when he spoke to us about the work done already in the Kampala district of Uganda. Sinodun's previous support had enabled the Rotary Club of Bogolobi to build a playground with new play equipment at the Kiswa Nursery and Kindergarten Play Centre. The nursery is near to both a large mental hospital and a large slum, so young children are at risk from drug pushers, violent groups and individuals, and those looking to push younger children into anti-social behaviour.

The Sinodun and Spires donations of £500 have been matched by £500 from the District Simplified Grants fund. This £1,000 will be sent to to the Rotary Club of Bogoli and used to purchase volley balls, nets and posts for three secondary schools and swings and nerry-go-rounds for three nursery schools.

The photos show the equipment installed at the Kiswa Nursery in 2011. The play area was officially opened by the Rotary District Governor.
