Club Meeting & Guest Speaker – Dave King on Polio Immunisation Days – on Zoom – 14th July 2020
July 14 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
We will be joined by Dave King at our club meeting. Dave is editor of Rotary magazine, and last January spent a week in India as part of the national polio vaccination programme. He is Past President of Elthorne-Hillingdon Rotary in West London, and works as a lecturer in journalism at the University Campus of Football Business, based at Wembley Stadium.
Rotary has been leading on polio eradication since the mid 1980s and is a key member of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative. In the 1980s there were 350,000 cases of polio per year across 125 countries. In 2020 polio is endemic in just two countries and we are really close to eradicating this terrible disease. Polio eradication is Rotary’s number one priority and the involvement of clubs and Rotarians across the globe is inspiring. Rotarians work with members of the GPEI to set the strategic direction of the organisation; they work with national governments encouraging them to provide financial support; they run fundraising activities in countries that are no longer affected by polio; and they volunteer with healthcare workers to deliver vaccines to children in countries where there is still a real risk of polio infection.

We will also report on activities across the Rotary District, where many clubs are helping local community groups and individuals affected by the covid-19 pandemic.
Visitors are very welcome, from any timezone. To join us, either email a member of our club or use the contact form on this website. We will then send you the Zoom link.
