Rotary across Britain and Ireland has partnered with the Stroke Association for well over ten years in its Know Your Blood Pressure awareness campaign. In Oxford, two Rotary clubs work together to highlight the link between high blood pressure and stroke risk one Saturday each year in Templar Square shopping centre.
On Saturday 13th April, the Oxford Spires shift was from 11am to 1pm and we were very lucky to have a new team member, Angela, who was our medical professional for the shift. Four other club members spoke to passers by and encouraged them to have their blood pressure taken, then Angela chatted with each in turn and took blood pressures and advised them on whether all looked in order or if they should visit their GP in the next few days or weeks.
Over the day, the three shifts took blood pressures of 110 people. We also spoke to many others, some of whom were well aware of their blood pressures, other who were interested in reading more and took away some of the Stroke Association literature, or who were happy to chat with us about this and other events run by Rotary in the area.
A successful day and huge thanks to our volunteers, particularly our three medical professionals.
