Oxfordshire Animal Sanctuary, Presidents Charity 2016-17

The Oxfordshire Animal Sanctuary rescues & rehomes over 500 animals in the Oxfordshire area every year. Since opening in 1967, they have helped over 25,000 animals. Members of the public can sponsor an animal at the sanctuary, volunteer to help with walking the dogs/other jobs at the sanctuary or in one of their charity shops and raise funds by taking part in sponsored events. A number of events are held at the Stadhampton site during the year and they also send out a regular newsletter to supporters.

Their site at Stadhampton needs new kennels for the animals they home which range from small animals to horses. They are currently raising funds for a quarantine hut and are always looking for funds to provide for the day-to-day needs of the animals.

I have chosen OAS as my charity for this year due to their work to save unwanted animals and their outreach work in the local community where they take out their animals to residents in retirement homes and also provide training opportunities for locally disadvantaged young people. I have two dogs of my own and so I can appreciate how much owning a pet can enhance your mental and physical wellbeing. I feel we should support this charity in their work to give these animals another chance and also to help provide opportunities for Oxfordshire residents.
